Five-Year Deal: Dragons Recruit Potent Souths Forward

St George Illawarra have made a major long-term statement in the player market, securing a potent South Sydney forward on a five-year deal as the Dragons continue reshaping their roster for sustained success.

The move is seen as a significant win for the club, locking in one of the Rabbitohs’ most damaging middle forwards through the prime years of his career. Known for his strong leg drive, post-contact metres and defensive steel, the recruit is expected to become a cornerstone of the Dragons’ pack moving forward.

A Statement Signing

Handing out a five-year contract underlines just how highly the Dragons rate their newest recruit. Rather than opting for a short-term fix, the club has committed to a long-term vision — building a tougher, more consistent forward platform capable of matching it with the NRL’s elite.

Club insiders believe the forward’s combination of power and work rate will address a long-standing issue for the Dragons, who have often struggled to control the middle third against top opposition.

Why the Dragons Moved Early

South Sydney’s pack has been one of the most competitive in the competition, making minutes hard to come by even for quality forwards. The Dragons moved decisively to capitalise, offering security, a clear role, and the chance to be a leader rather than part of a rotation.

The length of the deal also protects St George Illawarra from future market inflation, while giving the player stability and belief from the club’s hierarchy.

What He Brings to the Red V

The incoming forward brings:

  • Consistent go-forward through the middle
  • Strong defensive output and resilience
  • Experience in high-pressure matches
  • Leadership potential as the Dragons’ pack evolves

He is expected to slot straight into the rotation and could quickly become a starting front-rower or edge presence depending on how the Dragons shape their pack.

Souths’ Loss, Dragons’ Gain

While South Sydney will be disappointed to lose a forward with upside, roster balance and salary cap realities have forced tough decisions. For the Dragons, it represents a calculated strike — securing NRL-proven muscle rather than gambling on untested talent.

Looking Ahead

This signing signals intent. The Dragons are no longer shopping for stopgaps; they are building a core. With a five-year commitment now in place, attention will turn to how the club surrounds their new forward with complementary pieces to maximise his impact.

For Dragons fans, it’s a clear sign the rebuild is moving into its next phase — one built on power, patience, and long-term belief in the Red V. 🐉🔥
