Led Zeppelin Fans Get a Rare Shot at Owning a Member’s Music Gear

Fans of the legendary rock band Led Zeppelin have a rare chance to own some of bassist John Paul Jones‘ personal music gear, as he is currently auctioning off a bunch of his studio equipment.

The auction is being put on by Soundgas, an English company focused on selling classic and vintage recording gear.

On the main page of the auction, Soundgas shared some background on the sale, writing, “John is still very active musically – writing, recording and performing – but no longer requires so much studio equipment – most of which he has owned from new.”

“He feels it should be in the hands of people who will put it to good use, so it is offered here without formal provenance, with the intention that it continues to be used as intended,” the statement went on.

The company added a note at the bottom to make it clear that none of the gear was used during a time when Jones was actively performing and making music with Led Zeppelin and that the pieces are “from John’s private studio.”

The sale will reportedly include a series of timed auctions, with the first starting on Dec. 19. The entire auction will end on Jan. 18, 2026. Soundgas encouraged fans to check back often, as more items will be added over time.

One of the items up for auction is an amp from Guild Guitar Company. It was reportedly used with Jones’ rock supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures, which also features members Dave Grohl, Josh Homme, and Alain Johannes, and was left at Grohl’s house

The listing states, “Apparently someone borrowed it and when it was returned to JPJ the speakers were blown – we will test and check and report back.” As of writing, the current bid is $876.95, with 13 days left in the auction.

A number of items have already been sold, including an Electro Harmonix (EHX) Talking Pedal, a Moog Model 15 Synthesizer that Jones has had since the 1970s, and an EMS Synthi Hi-Fli and pedals unit, with the last two items selling for over $28,000 and $19,000, respectively.
