Hereford admit interest in absent midfielder Sterling-James

The 32-year-old signed for the Bulls midway through last season after leaving Rushall Olympic and has made 22 appearances this season, scoring five goals and making four assists.

However, Paul Caddis said that the popular midfielder was withdrawn from their matchday squad against Radcliffe amongst interest from another club.

He said: “Maz (Sterling-James) we made unavailable today (against Radcliffe). We won’t go into too much detail on that.

“There’s always interest in our players, there absolutely is. I’ve never stood here and lied to you. There is interest in Amari Sterling-James.”

Hereford were also without Kyle Howkins for their FA Trophy encounter and the defender will face a fitness test this week ahead of a trip to Chorley on Saturday.

Caddis added: “He’s got a bit of an issue with his knee, he’s had an injection a couple of days before that and it didn’t quite get the reaction that we had hoped. So he’s missing the moment.

“We’ll have a look at that on Tuesday, try and get him back for Thursday for next week. I think he’s got arthritis (in his knee). Kyle Howkins has got everything. He made his 100th appearance last week and I said he’s probably limped for 99 of them.

“He’s a brilliant character, his mentality is outstanding. Hopefully we’ll get him strapped up. We won’t take any risks with it, but we’ll do what we can.”
