‘Strange’ Welcome as $13m Sydney Roosters Recruit Lifts Lid on Housing Mix-Up

A marquee Sydney Roosters recruit has opened up on a “strange” and unexpected start to life at the club, revealing a bizarre housing mix-up that marked his arrival following his blockbuster $13 million deal.

The high-profile signing, expected to play a central role in the Roosters’ premiership push, admitted the off-field hiccup was not quite the smooth welcome he had imagined — though he was quick to laugh it off.

Unexpected Start to Life in Sydney

Speaking candidly, the star recruit explained that upon arriving in Sydney, he discovered the accommodation arrangements were not what he had been led to believe.

“There was a bit of confusion,” he said. “I turned up thinking everything was sorted, but it turned out there’d been a mix-up. It was a strange way to start, to be honest.”

The situation left the player temporarily scrambling for alternatives while the issue was resolved, adding an unusual twist to what should have been a seamless transition.

Laughter After the Confusion

Despite the awkward beginning, the Roosters recruit said the incident quickly became a talking point — and a source of humour — among teammates.

“It’s funny now,” he added. “At the time you’re thinking, ‘How has this happened?’ But things like that just happen sometimes.”

Club officials moved swiftly to sort out the problem, ensuring the player was settled soon after.

No Impact on Football Focus

Crucially, the recruit stressed that the mix-up has had no effect on his preparation or mindset, insisting his focus remains firmly on football.

“Once it was sorted, that was it,” he said. “The main thing is getting to training, learning the systems, and building combinations.”

The Roosters have high expectations of the signing, who arrives with both elite pedigree and a contract reflecting his status as one of the competition’s most valuable players.

Settling In at the Roosters

Since the early confusion, the recruit says he has settled well into life at the club and is enjoying the environment under coach Trent Robinson.

“The boys have been unreal,” he said. “The standards here are high, and that’s exactly why I wanted to come.”

A Story to Laugh About — For Now

While the housing mix-up made for an unconventional welcome, it has quickly become little more than a footnote in what the Roosters hope will be a hugely successful signing.

And for the player himself, it’s already a story he’ll likely be telling for years — a strange start to a very big chapter.
