Roosters’ big boost as rising star set to remain despite DCE roadblock: Nov 1 LIVE

The Roosters have reportedly been handed a huge boost with young gun Hugo Savala set to remain at the club and fight for a spot in first grade.

The 23-year-old’s future became unclear after the arrival of veteran Daly Cherry-Evans, who is set to partner Sam Walker in the Tricolours’ halves spots.

While he may not have a starting spot available, Savala will reportedly snub interest from rival clubs and instead signed a two-year extension according to Code Sports.

Hugo Savala is set to stay put.

Savala had previously hit the open market, having been linked with a move to the Bears and the Cowboys, with the Raiders ruling out a move for his services.

He was without a contract for the 2027 season, but will now remain at the club until the end of 2028 and fight for a spot on the bench as a utility.

Savala also has a hulking frame, standing at 194 centimetres and could potentially play at lock alongside halfback and five-eighth.

As it stands, Cherry-Evans hasn’t committed his future to the club beyond the 2026 season and therefore Savala may only have to wait a single year to reclaim a starting spot.

During that year, he will be able to learn off one of the most experienced halves in the game, being buoyed by a breakout campaign in 2025, playing 21 games.
