The Sydney Roosters have locked in rising forward Blake Steep on a new deal that will keep him at the club beyond the 2026 NRL season.
The 20-year-old has impressed this year as part of the next generation of forwards coming through the Roosters’ ranks, earning a regular spot off the interchange bench and making 22 appearances.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Steep’s re-signing comes after months of negotiations, with the Roosters keen to secure his future before the November 1 transfer window.
A product of the club’s junior system, Steep captained the SG Ball Cup side to within one game of the 2023 Grand Final and has steadily risen through the ranks alongside Naufahu Whyte and Salesi Foketi.
Steep driven by learning from Roosters stars
A lifelong Roosters supporter, Steep says the chance to train alongside senior internationals has been invaluable. “I’ve always been a Roosters supporter and remember watching Teddy [James Tedesco] when they won the 2018 and 2019 Grand Finals,” he told Zero Tackle earlier this year.
“He’s an outstanding player and during our training and in games, he’s been pushing me to be the best that I can be, and I’m learning a lot from him.”
Focused on improvement, Steep said he sets new targets every year as he looks to solidify his place in first grade. “Obviously, the goal is to play more first-grade games, and I want to keep working on my craft and get better as a player,” he said. “I feel with each game I’m playing, I can get more confidence out of it and then more learning.”
The deal underlines the Roosters’ faith in their homegrown talent, with Steep now set to continue his development under Trent Robinson well into the club’s future.
