Sydney Roosters Also Monitoring Zac Lomax and Luke Sommerton

The Sydney Roosters are continuing their aggressive recruitment drive, with reports confirming that the club is closely monitoring Zac Lomax and Luke Sommerton ahead of the 2026 NRL season.

Lomax on the Radar

After an impressive 2025 campaign with the St George Illawarra Dragons, Zac Lomax has emerged as one of the NRL’s most consistent outside backs. His strong ball-carrying and reliable goal-kicking have caught the attention of several top clubs — but the Roosters are believed to be leading the chase.

Sources close to the club suggest Lomax could be viewed as a long-term replacement for Joseph Manu, who departed the Tricolours at the end of 2024.

“Zac’s a complete footballer — powerful, skillful, and mentally tough,” a Roosters insider told Fox League. “He fits the Roosters’ system perfectly.”

Rising Hooker in the Mix

The Roosters are also understood to be tracking Luke Sommerton, the young Penrith Panthers hooker who impressed in limited first-grade appearances this season. With veteran rake Brandon Smith managing injuries and load, Sommerton could provide valuable depth and competition in the No. 9 role.

NRL analyst Cooper Cronk believes Sommerton’s potential makes him a smart long-term investment.

“He’s quick out of dummy-half and defends well above his weight. Sommerton has the tools to thrive under Trent Robinson’s coaching,” Cronk said on NRL 360.

Roosters’ Recruitment Focus

Following the exits of Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Luke Keary, and Joseph Manu, the Roosters have significant cap space available — reportedly close to $3 million — to reshape their squad for the next era.

Club chairman Nick Politis has made it clear that the club’s priority is to maintain its reputation as a destination for elite talent.

“The Roosters will always aim to build a premiership-winning roster,” Politis said earlier this year. “We’re targeting players who share our culture and commitment.”
