Parramatta Eels Enter Conversations with Jonah Pezet’s Management for Deal Beyond 2026

Sources close to Parramatta Eels and Melbourne Storm say that the Eels have quietly made initial contact with Jonah Pezet’s management team to explore a possible move beginning in 2026.

Pezet, the Storm’s young playmaker, is reportedly seen as a key target for several clubs looking to strengthen their halves combinations, and Parramatta appears to be among them.

🔍 What We Know for Sure

  • In December 2024, Pezet signed a four-year contract extension with Melbourne Storm, which runs through to the end of the 2029 season.
  • However, that extension included a release / exit clause triggered if Storm halfback Jahrome Hughes commits long-term. With Hughes having now extended his deal through 2030, that clause becomes relevant.
  • Pezet has been linked with interest from rival clubs before, including a reported offer from the Newcastle Knights last year, which he declined in favour of staying with the Storm.

🔮 What’s Being Speculated & Why Parramatta Is in the Mix

  • With Jahrome Hughes’ re-signing, Jonah Pezet’s clause may allow him to explore other opportunities, making him one of the most sought-after promising young halfbacks in the NRL.
  • Parramatta, needing creative playmaking options beyond Mitchell Moses, are reportedly looking for a partner in the halves who can help build for the future. Speculation suggests Pezet has enough profile and potential to fit that mold.

⚠️ Challenges & What Would Need to Happen

  • Pezet is still under contract with the Storm until 2029, so any move would require activating his release clause or negotiating some kind of mutual agreement with his current club. (melbournestorm.com.au)
  • Parramatta would need to find the cap space to make a competitive offer, especially given their recent roster clean-ups and exits. Also, Pezet will likely expect assurances of regular starting time, which could mean a planned transition of roles or succession in the halves.
  • Competition is real: other clubs are circling. If Pezet becomes officially available, demand is expected to drive his market value up. (sen.com.au)

📝 Conclusion

While no deal has been confirmed, the pieces are aligning for a possible move of Jonah Pezet outside the Storm by or after 2026. Parramatta’s interest, if true, reflects both a recognition of his talent and a strategic attempt to plan for the future.

If this comes to pass, it could be one of the more significant recruiting moves of the 2025-2026 offseason — especially given Pezet’s youth, upside, and the timing relative to key contract milestones around him.
