Parramatta Eels Veteran Forward Rejects $650K Rival Offer to Sign Fresh Eels Deal

In a boost for Parramatta, their seasoned forward has officially spurned a rival offer worth $650,000 per season in order to recommit to the Eels on a new contract.

The veteran, who has been a stalwart in the Eels’ pack over the past several seasons, was reportedly pursued aggressively by another club offering a lucrative one-year deal. However, after weighing his options, he opted to stay with Parramatta on a deal that secures his future through the end of 2026.

While the financial details of the new Eels contract have not been disclosed, insiders suggest the deal offers a comparable base salary plus additional incentives—valuing loyalty, leadership, and continuity within the squad. Club officials were said to be particularly keen to retain his experience, especially as the team undergoes a period of transition under its current coach.

Eels General Manager of Football, Mark O’Neill, said:

“We know what he brings to this club — in the forward pack, on the training paddock, and in the dressing room. Having a player of his calibre staying here means a lot for where we want to go.”

The decision sends a strong message to young forwards in the squad, highlighting the Eels’ commitment to rewarding long-serving players. It also underscores the balancing act clubs must perform: honouring experience while managing salary cap pressures and recruiting emerging talent.

For the veteran, the move is both a professional and personal statement — choosing stability and belief in the club’s direction over a one-off payday. Fans will see him in blue & gold again next season, continuing his role as a backbone of the forward engine room.
