Broncos Table GOAT $3.5m Deal to Block R360 Poaching Raid

The Brisbane Broncos have moved swiftly and decisively to secure the future of their cornerstone forward, tabling a record-breaking $3.5 million deal in a bid to fend off a poaching raid from cashed-up rivals R360.

At the centre of the tug-of-war is Payne Haas, the powerhouse prop widely regarded as the best front-rower in the NRL. Haas has been the subject of relentless speculation in recent months, with rival suitors circling and reports of multi-million-dollar offers threatening to lure him away from Red Hill.

But the Broncos have responded in emphatic fashion. Their new deal would make Haas the highest-paid forward in club history — and reaffirm Brisbane’s determination to keep him in maroon and gold for the prime of his career.

Webcke: “Haas Has Surpassed the Greats”

The magnitude of the deal is matched by the praise being heaped on Haas, with club legend Shane Webcke declaring that the 24-year-old has now surpassed even the greatest props in Broncos history.

“I’ve played alongside some of the best – Glenn Lazarus, Petero Civoniceva, Brad Thorn – but what Payne Haas is doing week in, week out is on another level,” Webcke said. “His work rate, his power, his consistency – he’s redefining what it means to be a front-rower. He’s not just the best forward in the game right now, he’s the best we’ve ever seen in Broncos colours.”

Those words carry enormous weight. Webcke, himself a three-time premiership winner, knows the standards of greatness at Brisbane. To say Haas has exceeded them underscores the scale of his impact.

Haas’s Value to Brisbane

Haas’s numbers tell the story. In 2025 he again led the competition in metres gained by a forward, averaged close to 30 tackles a game, and consistently set the platform for Brisbane’s attacking stars. His ability to combine size, stamina, and skill has made him virtually irreplaceable.

For the Broncos, retaining Haas is about more than statistics. He is the physical and emotional heartbeat of the squad, a leader whose presence lifts teammates and intimidates opponents. Losing him would be unthinkable for a club intent on returning to premiership glory.

A Defining Contract Battle

The $3.5m offer is expected to stretch across multiple seasons, giving Haas both financial security and the chance to cement his legacy at the club where he debuted. Rival interest from R360 and others is not expected to go away easily, but Brisbane’s bold move has reset the market and sent a clear message: the Broncos will not be outbid for their most valuable player.

For Haas, the decision looms as career-defining. Stay loyal to the club that nurtured him and build a legacy that could see him remembered as the greatest Bronco of all time, or take on a new challenge with unprecedented riches elsewhere.

Conclusion

Whatever happens next, one fact is clear: Payne Haas has already changed the game. If Brisbane’s $3.5m deal is accepted, it won’t just block a rival’s poaching raid — it will secure the services of a generational talent whose greatness is already being etched into Broncos folklore.
