Castleford Tigers secure two players as they step up recuitment

Castleford Tigers have confirmed the contract extensions of both George Hill and Jason Qareqare with the two youngsters penning three and two-year deals respectively.

Yesterday, the Tigers’ investor Martin Jepson took to the club’s social media to provide an update on the club since his investment back in December. During that, Jepson assured fans that he and his team were confident of Castleford Tigers’ Super League status in 2025.

As a welcome boost just after the club confirmed the re-signing of George Hill and that’s now been followed by news of Qareqare’s extension too. Jepson had identified a key focus on youth as he confirmed that ten academy players had been retained and now they’ve tied down their 19 and 20-year-old starlets.

Jepson also spoke glowingly on the investment in the backline with the likes of Tex Hoy, Corey Hall and Louis Senior joining in recent weeks, whilst pre-season signing Innes Senior has also taken to life at The Jungle incredibly well.

Both Senior brothers will have Jason Qareqare to dethrone if they’re to earn new contracts with the Fijian international remaining at the club until 2026 after today’s news.

Castleford Tigers tie down talented winger

This morning’s news of Qareqare’s new deal seems to have been incredibly well-received by Castleford Tigers’ fans with the flyer a favourite at Wheldon Road when healthy.

They’ll hope he has better fortune with injuries during the next two seasons with his signature now confirmed.

The club shared a statement confirming the news: “Castleford Tigers are pleased to announce that Fiji International Jason Qareqare has signed a two-year contract extension!”

Director of Rugby Danny Wilson commented: “Jason is an exciting player. Fans love him and he loves them. He can score tries and he’s quick and exciting so I’m pleased we’ve got him with us. To keep people like Jason in the squad is huge. Again, he is another player that had a lot of Super League interest so very, very excited that he has committed his future to Castleford again.”

“It just shows that this club can produce players and that’s a testament to the work that’s been ongoing with it with the current setup but also with the people that have been in post previously. They’ve done a good job with Jason and we’re very excited that is is with us for the next few years.”

Building for the future: Tigers lock in lock forward

George Hill’s new three-year deal was confirmed yesterday with the contract also including an option for a fourth year in the club’s favour, highlighting just how highly those at the club think of the 19-year-old.

Danny Wilson beamed about the announcement: “It’s really exciting for the club and for George. I think everything that we talk about is developing our own young kids and our own talent and retaining them and I think George has shown the fans and the coaches what is about. He got an opportunity against the World Champions that he took with both hands so to tie him down long term is a big boost.

“The Head Coach and the club’s willingness to play young kids all come hand in hand and everything is lined up for players to take their opportunities so George has done that.”
