Virginia Tech football has formally announced the departure of one of its most highly‑touted recruits, a 4‑star player tied to a massive $90 million NIL valuation, following a disappointing season. The announcement comes amid several other roster moves as the Hokies prepare for the next cycle.
Among those leaving is junior cornerback Dante Lovett, who has entered the NCAA transfer portal. Lovett appeared in all 26 of his first two seasons but has decided to explore other opportunities after the 2025 season began.
Leading up to this, the program also saw Malachi Thomas (running back) and Braelin Moore (offensive lineman) enter the transfer portal, adding to the offseason turnover.
Head Coach Brent Pry issued a statement offering thanks to the departing players and wishing them well. He said these exits are part of the evolving landscape of college football, especially in the transfer and NIL era. As Virginia Tech plans its way forward, replacing talent and retaining key contributors will be a priority.
