An unnamed Sydney club has reportedly entered the race for Knights superstar Kalyn Ponga.
The Roosters have been loosely linked to Ponga, but according to Triple M, there is another Sydney club who have had serious conversations about signing the fullback.
The fullback is signed with the Knights until the end of 2027, but there have been reports he may agitate for an early release, especially now that coach Adam O’Brien will depart the club at season’s end.
Ponga has also been linked to a move to rugby union.
“A high profile Sydney NRL club are in secret conversations to sign Kalyn Ponga, and it’s not the Sydney Roosters,” as per the Triple M Whisper on the Beau, Cat and Woodsy Breakfast radio show.
Most teams around the league are well stocked at fullback, as is the depth of the position, but Ponga would be an upgrade for nearly every side.
However, his price tag is a hefty one. On at least $1.2 million a season, Ponga is among the top five highest earners in the NRL.
