The Brisbane Broncos halfback felt he may have returned to training slightly early.
Broncos halfbackĀ Adam Reynolds has moved to quell concernĀ surrounding his hamstring injury after concerning scenes at training ahead of the NRL finals. Reynolds was this week named in Brisbane’s extended squad for Saturday night’s showdown against North Queensland, and was expected to travel with the team to Townsville.
Reynolds has been out of the side since injuring his hamstring in the loss to the Melbourne Storm in round 23. And in a blow to the side the Broncos confirmed the halfback re-injured the hamstring at training on Thursday with images emerging of the star in pain.
The 35-year-old halfback is considered a vital part of the Broncos puzzle with concerns to how far the side can go in theĀ NRL finals without Reynolds. WhileĀ Corey Parker deemed Reece WalshĀ as the most vital star, many feels Reynolds needs to be wearing the No.7 jersey to make a difference.
And while there were concerns Reynolds would be set for another few weeks on the sideline, the veteran has moved to quell fears over a long-term injury. Reynolds said the side were just being cautious in training and claimed he’ll be back for the finals.
āItās not as serious as everyoneās talking about. It was a bit of tightness at training the other day, I was doing everything with the team, and unfortunately it tightened up,” he said on Triple M Radio’s ‘The Rush Hour with Dobbo & Elliott’. “I got off the field pretty quick to make sure I didnāt get any further damage to it. Iām still on schedule and should be back for the finals.ā
While there are still concerns around Reynolds re-injuring the hamstring, the Broncos halfback claimed he was confident of a return. āThe scan is routine, that was always planned. It was just that I tightened up during training that it was reported on,” he added.
“It was always the plan to play the first week of finals. I would like to have been back the week prior but not to be. I tend to like to get out and train pretty early, as early as I can. Itās my fault for pushing it a bit too much to get back. Iām eager to get back out there with the team; I feel like weāre in a good spot at the moment and I want to contribute. Itās tough watching from the sidelines but I have to recognise the boys are doing a great job.ā
Earlier in the week, coach Michael Maguire claimed Reynolds was a very low chance of playing this week. āI have named Adam in the squad, he did some running (on Tuesday) but Iām not going to chance it knowing whatās ahead,ā Maguire said on Wednesday. “I wonāt say right now, āNo, heās not playingā, but ideally, I imagine it will be next week.ā
