In a stunning move that has rocked the NRL world, the Parramatta Eels have reportedly secured the signature of Penrith Panthers’ young sensation Jesse McLean in a deal worth a massive $1.2 million over three years.
McLean, just 19, has been touted as one of the most exciting outside backs of his generation, having come through the Panthers’ junior system and made waves with his blistering speed and natural footwork.
The Eels are believed to have offered a lucrative contract and immediate first-grade opportunities, convincing McLean to make the high-profile switch. Insiders say the deal also involved the release of a fringe Eels forward to the Panthers to balance the trade.
Parramatta officials see McLean as a long-term fullback or centre and a key piece in rebuilding their squad after a disappointing 2025 campaign.
> “Jesse is an incredible talent with a bright future,” said an Eels spokesperson. “We’re thrilled to bring him into our system and give him the platform to shine.”
The Panthers, known for their deep talent pool, were reportedly reluctant to lose McLean but understood his desire for more game time and a leading role.
With the 2026 season looming, all eyes will now be on McLean as he prepares to don the blue and gold — and live up to the hefty price tag that comes with it.
