A standout performer for the Penrith Panthers this season, Jenkins has reportedly secured a new deal with the club after starting the year in the Ron Massey Cup, the third tier of rugby league in New South Wales.
Originally granted an early release by the Newcastle Knights at the end of last season, Jenkins was set to line up for St Marys Saints before catching the eye of Penrith officials, ultimately earning an NRL contract.
Since then, the outside back has elevated his game to new heights, crossing for seven tries, setting up two more, breaking 32 tackles and 12 lines, while averaging an impressive 143 running metres per game. Fresh off a hat-trick against the Wests Tigers, Jenkins’ form was rewarded with a spot in the Blues’ Origin preparations.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Jenkins’ breakout year has now been recognised with a fresh deal that keeps him at Penrith until the end of 2026, along with an upgrade to a full-time NRL contract.
Reflecting on his departure from Newcastle, Jenkins explained to Zero Tackle:
“It wasn’t a bad blood thing with the Knights. It was a mutual decision that was best for both of us. It was a really good opportunity—I needed to go away, chase something new and enjoy it. It was good up there with a good group of boys, but for me it was a personal decision to leave and do what’s best for me.”
