4 Penrith Panthers Players Who Survived the Trade Deadline — But Are Definitely Gone by the Offseason Revealed

The Penrith Panthers may have stayed quiet during the trade deadline, but that doesn’t mean the roster is staying intact. With the club juggling salary cap pressure and a new era looming, four key players who made it through the mid-season cut are almost certain to be gone by the 2025 offseason.

1. Spencer Leniu – Bound for the Roosters

Leniu’s move has been unofficially official for months. The hard-hitting forward is heading east to Bondi, lured by a lucrative deal and the promise of a more prominent role. Panthers fans were hoping for a late twist, but with his departure all but confirmed, it’s clear Penrith will have to fill a massive void in their forward pack.

2. Jaeman Salmon – Looking for Starting Minutes

Despite being a valuable utility off the bench, Salmon is expected to chase a starting opportunity elsewhere. Clubs like the Dragons and Bulldogs are reportedly circling, and with Penrith stacked in the spine and back row, it’s unlikely he’ll get the minutes he wants if he stays.

3. Sunia Turuva – Price Tag Too High to Match

The breakout star’s value has skyrocketed after an explosive season, and the Panthers simply can’t match the offers coming in. Turuva is believed to be fielding multi-year offers from rival clubs with cap space to burn — and a starting wing spot ready. A big-money exit is looming.

4. Jack Cogger – Backup No More

Cogger has done an admirable job filling in during injuries and Origin periods, but he’s made it clear he wants to be more than a backup. With several clubs seeking experienced halves, including the Titans and Knights, Cogger is set to make the leap — and the Panthers won’t stand in his way.

What It Means for the Panthers

The departure of this quartet won’t just be a cap-clearing exercise — it’s a major shake-up for a team that’s built its dynasty on depth and development. Coach Ivan Cleary and the front office have some big calls to make as they look to keep the title window open beyond 2025.

Stay tuned — the post-season is going to be just as fierce off the field as it is on it.
