Led Zeppelin Legend Reveals Why There’s ‘No Chance’ He'll Ever Pen His Memoir

Robert Plant’s career in the music industry has spanned nearly 60 years, but he has no plans of rehashing any of it. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the legendary Led Zeppelin frontman has revealed that he will never publish a memoir or approve a biopic about his life.

“Not a chance,” Plant, 76, replied when asked if he ever thinks about penning his memoir. “I’m going down with the ship, and so is my memory.”

When asked if he’d consider signing off on a biopic about his life, Plant responded, “No chance. I’m back on the ship, and I’m going down with it.”

Plant also addressed the recent Led Zeppelin documentary, Becoming Led Zeppelin, which documented the British rock band’s formation and early years. He noted that he has no interest in a follow-up film that would finish the band’s story.

“I think the fact that it ended before we needed to take a shave in the morning was probably the most appropriate,” he said. “I think that kind of shook up the joyous instance of everything, and then we had to go out and buy a razor, and that was it.”

This isn’t the first time Plant has shut down the idea of documenting his life story. In 2017, he told Classic Rock that the idea went against everything he represented in his early days as a rock musician. “Where the f— does this memoir s— come from?” he asked. “Once upon a time, we were social deviants, pushed out to the corners of society, quite often body-searched in the street by cops.”

The rock legend noted that people once “spat” at him and his bandmate John Bonham because they were “hippies.”

“We were representing a challenge to the order,” Plant explained. “So, do we want to chum up and cuddle up on the whole idea of going to a publisher and telling stories? I mean, what – who – for? Those stories are locked nicely between my two ever-growing ear holes. So f— it. There’s a lot in there, and that’s where it’s staying.”

Plant formed Led Zeppelin in 1968 with guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones, and drummer John Bonham. The band broke up in 1980, and Plant went on to a successful solo career, collaborating with Alison Krauss and other musicians. Plant will drop an album with his new band Saving Grace on September 26.
