Middlesbrough hold talks over move for released Premier League striker

Middlesbrough have held talks with striker Danny Ings and his representatives, according to The Northern Echo.
Middlesbrough are preparing for an exciting 2025/26 season after a change in the head coach position. Rob Edwards replaced Michael Carrick, who was sacked following Boro’s failure to reach the play-offs two years in a row.

Edwards has a difficult challenge to help his new side finish in the top six and return to the Premier League. The Teessiders are yet to make any new signings this summer and must move sharply over the coming weeks.

One position that Boro must strengthen is the forward position. Kelechi Iheanacho failed to live up to expectations last campaign, and so Edwards must recruit a new frontman at the Riverside.

Now, according to The Northern Echo reporter Scott Wilson, Middlesbrough have had conversations with former West Ham forward Danny Ings and his representatives about a potential move to the Teesside club.

The 32-year-old was released from the Premier League outfit at the end of last season after making just the one start last campaign. He scored five times in 69 appearances for the Hammers over three seasons.

A much-needed striker at Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough sold Emmanuel Latte Lath for £22.5m in January and recently sold Josh Coburn to Millwall. A striker is a priority for Boro this transfer window.

Tommy Conway proved to be a dependable option last season for the Teesside outfit, scoring 13 times, but was often the only attacking output for the Championship side.

With the potential acquisition of Ings, Edwards will have some beneficial experience added to his squad that can help Conway develop and improve his goal-scoring numbers.

Ings has valuable Championship experience
The 32-year-old has scored 72 times in 240 Premier League appearances and has experience that Middlesbrough certainly lack up front.

Ings registered 27 strikes in 87 Championship features for Burnley, where he got promoted in 2014. While his last appearance in the second tier came over 10 years ago, the ex-West Ham man will be eager to start where he left off and boost his scoring numbers.

The former England international has suffered from injury problems over the last few seasons during spells at Southampton, Liverpool and Aston Villa, where success has varied. It would be a gamble for the Teessiders if they were to sign the striker, but if the wage demands are reasonable, then it’s a solid option to go for.
