Watford plan to make new signing Othmane Maamma a fixture of the first-team squad after he made an immediate impression in training.
The Moroccan’s appetite to learn and improve, as well as his technical level, is said to have impressed.
The club had initially viewed Maamma as a project and planned to send him out on loan, having made the signing when he unexpectedly became available.
That idea has now been revised, and the 19-year-old is set to seriously challenge for a place on either flank.
The Hornets’ newest recruit was present at Grosvenor Vale on Saturday as his new team-mates drew 1-1 with AFC Wimbledon to share the Football Manager Cup.
Maamma played 12 times for Montpellier in the top tier last term, scoring one goal and assisting another.
He has also racked up 20 caps for Morocco Under-20s and was named in the U20 African Cup of Nations team of the tournament earlier this year.
