Insider explains why the Steelers traded for Jalen Ramsey

The Pittsburgh Steelers officially acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey on Monday, ending the star’s time with the Miami Dolphins.

Ramsey’s exit from the Dolphins had been boiling for months, and it was of no surprise to see him get moved. Yet, the Steelers might not have been the first team that many pointed to at the start of the process.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ trade for Jalen Ramsey is a massive move, and insiders are weighing in on why it went down. According to reports, the Steelers are going all-in this season, and Ramsey is a key piece of that puzzle. With Aaron Rodgers on board, the Steelers are looking to make a deep playoff run, and Ramsey’s skills will be crucial in making that happen.

Ramsey’s contract, which has three seasons remaining but no guaranteed money after 2025, essentially makes this a one-year trial for the Steelers. This minimizes the risk, and if Ramsey performs well, he can cash in again with a strong campaign in 2025.

The Steelers’ defense is shaping up to be a dominant force, with Ramsey joining forces with Darius Slay and a strong front seven. Ramsey’s versatility will allow him to wear multiple hats, and he’ll likely emerge as a leader alongside Slay.

The trade also sends Minkah Fitzpatrick back to the Miami Dolphins, where he began his career. Fitzpatrick is a five-time Pro Bowler, and his return to Miami could be a game-changer for the Dolphins’ defense.

Overall, the Steelers’ trade for Jalen Ramsey is a bold move aimed at making a championship run. With Ramsey on board, the Steelers’ defense is looking fierce, and their chances of making a deep playoff run just got a whole lot better ¹ ².
