Parramatta has been rocked by a judiciary bombshell after hard-hitting forward Kelma Tuilagi was suspended for three matches over a controversial crusher tackle on Dragons veteran Jack De Belin.
The NRL Judiciary came down hard on the Eels enforcer, with match review officials deeming the hit during last weekend’s clash as “dangerous and reckless.” The decision strips Parramatta of a crucial middle forward as they head into a critical run of matches against Penrith, Canberra, and Brisbane.
Tuilagi pleaded guilty but offered no defense at the hearing, avoiding a longer sentence but still delivering a major blow to coach Jason Ryles’ forward rotation.
> “We respect the process, but it’s a tough one to take,” said a club spokesperson. “Kelma plays tough, not dirty.”
The ban comes at a pivotal moment in Parramatta’s season as they fight to stay in finals contention, currently sitting just outside the top eight. Tuilagi has been one of the Eels’ most aggressive and consistent defenders in recent weeks, making the suspension a strategic setback.
This incident has reignited debate around the NRL’s crackdown on high-impact tackles, with critics arguing the league is “overcorrecting” at the expense of physicality — while others say the punishment is fair, given the growing concern over spinal injuries.
