Oregon quarterback Dante Moore made headlines off the field this week after donating $10,000 to his alma mater, Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School in Detroit.
The generous contribution was reported by Local 4 News’ Joel Sebastianelli and marks a meaningful gesture from Moore to the community that helped raise him.
“Being here is a true blessing to give back to the community,” Moore said during the visit. “Every opportunity I get to come home, I try to seize the opportunity.”
The former five-star recruit didn’t stop with the donation. Moore also spent time reading his children’s book, From Journey to Dream, to kids at Detroit PAL — a nonprofit dedicated to youth development through athletics and mentorship.
Each child received a signed copy of the book, which follows Moore’s own story from sports-obsessed youth to rising football star.
“I feel like it was a good idea, and I’m glad I did it,” Moore said of writing the book, which focuses on themes of perseverance, teamwork and self-belief.
Now back in Eugene and expected to start for a national title-contending Oregon team in 2025, Moore made sure to leave the kids with a parting message.
“If you have a dream, chase it,” he said. “Anything’s possible in this world.”
Moore and the Ducks will be in action when they host Montana State on Saturday, August 30. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. PST at Autzen Stadium.
