The Houston Texans have made a major splash ahead of training camp, acquiring star wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers in a blockbuster trade. The move reunites Samuel with former 49ers defensive coordinator and current Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, while instantly bolstering Houston’s dynamic offense led by quarterback C.J. Stroud.
According to league sources, the Texans sent a 2025 second-round pick and a conditional 2026 third-rounder to San Francisco in exchange for Samuel. Immediately following the trade, Houston inked the versatile wideout to a 4-year, $92 million contract extension, including $62 million guaranteed.

He joins a revamped Texans receiving corps that now includes Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and Christian Kirk — creating one of the most explosive units in the AFC.
With this move, Houston sends a clear message: they’re all-in on a Super Bowl run in 2025. Samuel’s arrival also provides insurance as Dell recovers from injury and complements Stroud’s rapid development as one of the league’s rising quarterbacks.
The 49ers, meanwhile, clear cap space and look to reset with younger talent, likely eyeing a wide receiver in the upcoming draft or through free agency.
