Reece Walsh Signs Record $5 Million Deal with Brisbane Broncos

The Brisbane Broncos have pulled off a major coup, securing superstar fullback Reece Walsh on a staggering four-year deal worth $5 million – the most lucrative contract in the club’s history.

The deal, which locks Walsh in until the end of the 2029 NRL season, comes after weeks of speculation surrounding the 21-year-old’s future. Despite being pursued by several rival clubs reportedly offering over $1.5 million per year, Walsh turned down millions to remain loyal to the Broncos.

The extension will see Walsh earn approximately $1.25 million per season, placing him among the highest-paid players in the NRL. League legend Andrew Johns described the contract as an “absolute steal,” considering Walsh’s game-changing ability and market value.

> “He could’ve chased the money elsewhere, but he’s committed to building something long-term at Red Hill,” Johns said. “That’s huge for the Broncos.”

The Broncos, who have struggled for consistency following their 2023 Grand Final appearance, see Walsh as the cornerstone of their rebuild under coach Kevin Walters. Club CEO Dave Donaghy hailed the signing as a major win for the future.

> “Reece is not just an incredible athlete – he’s a leader, a competitor, and someone who embodies what it means to be a Bronco,” Donaghy said.

Walsh’s loyalty is being praised across the league, with fans and pundits alike commending him for prioritizing team culture and personal growth over chasing bigger paychecks.

> “I love this club. I’ve grown so much here,” Walsh said in a statement. “I want to win premierships in Brisbane, and I believe we’ve got the squad to do it.”

With this signing, the Broncos have firmly stated their intention to remain contenders – and keep one of the NRL’s brightest stars in maroon and gold for years to come.
