In a powerful and emotional moment, Queensland Maroons coach Billy Slater delivered a pointed response to recent criticism from former NSW forward Aaron Woods, who labeled him a “grub” in the lead-up to Origin II.
Slater, visibly passionate, responded post-match with a line that instantly echoed around the rugby league world:
“I’M NOT DONE YET… THERE’S YOUR ANSWER.”
But it wasn’t just a clapback — it was a tribute.
Slater then referenced the late Paul Green, former Maroons coach and one of his mentors, saying he carries Green’s legacy into every game.
“He believed in me and this jersey,” Slater said. “I owe a lot of what I do to him. When people question my character — I think of Paul and what he stood for.”
Green tragically passed away in 2022, but his influence on the Maroons and Slater remains deeply felt. The moment not only silenced critics but underscored the emotional weight behind Slater’s leadership.
As Queensland heads into Origin III, the message is clear: Billy Slater isn’t just coaching — he’s on a mission.
