Rayan Ait-Nouri edges closer to Champions League move amid Tottenham links

Tottenham target Rayan Ait-Nouri is edging closer to sealing his exit from Wolves this summer.

Tottenham have a remarkable amount of work to do this summer in order to right their wrongs from the previous Premier League campaign.

Ange Postecoglou led Spurs to a 17th-placed finish, though the Lilywhites’ UEFA Europa League triumph somewhat subdued those concerns.

However, Spurs fans will not tolerate another domestic campaign as poor as the last, and recruitment in North London is going to play a crucial role.

Manchester City close in on Ait-Nouri

Tottenham will be afforded no margin for error on the recruitment front this summer, though the latest update doesn’t serve as good news.

After seemingly missing out on Rayan Cherki to Manchester City, the Citizens are looking to seal a transfer double over the North London occupants, with news of a deal for Ait-Nouri emerging.

The Wolves defender was previously linked with a move to Tottenham, but as reported by Fabrizio Romano (2 June), a deal between the defender and Manchester City is now on, as Pep Guardiola’s side look to improve their squad for their own UEFA Champions League ambitions.

With a Champions League campaign awaiting, Spurs need to bolster their squad, but with two targets now looking as though they will be joining a Premier League rival, Tottenham are falling behind.

This summer is going to be a deciding factor in any Spurs success next season, and they simply have to get every call right.

Postecoglou uncertainty affecting Tottenham plans

With Postecoglou’s future still hanging in the balance, Spurs will undoubtedly find it hard to attract players.

Not knowing who they will be playing under next season will deter targets from making the move to North London, and Spurs will be aware of that.

It is simple. This situation needs to be cleared up as soon as possible, otherwise they run the risk of wasting valuable time in the window.

Destiny Udogie struggled at times last season, and having someone like Ait-Nouri to not only rotate with, but also compete with, would have been a huge boost for Spurs, though it appears as though they will have to look elsewhere to secure more depth at the left-back position
