Blackburn Rovers consider move for Plymouth Argyle chief

Blackburn Rovers are taking a look at Plymouth Argyle chief executive Andrew Parkinson, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon page.

Blackburn Rovers are considering a move for the Home Park man this summer. Rovers are preparing for another year in the Championship.

Plymouth Argyle, on the other hand, were relegated to League One this past season. The Pilgrims finished in the bottom three along with Luton Town and Cardiff City and will be aiming for a return at the first time of asking.

As per journalist Nixon on his Patreon, Parkinson has emerged on the radar of the Ewood Park hierarchy. The Lancashire outfit have seen Steve Waggott head out the exit door recently and have a vacancy to fill.

They released an official club statement last month on their website reading: “It has been agreed that Steve Waggott will be leaving Blackburn Rovers. We would like to thank Steve for his work over the past seven years and we wish him well for his future endeavours.”

Blackburn Rovers missed out on the play-offs on the final day after drawing 1-1 away at Sheffield United. They ended in 7th place in the table and were two points off the top six in the end.

Blackburn Rovers could see Parkinson as someone to step into Waggott’s shoes. Rovers have the chance to bring in some new faces this summer.

Blackburn Rovers celebrate

Valerien Ismael was picked as their manager earlier this year after John Eustace’s exit to fellow second tier side Derby County. He initially struggled for results before things finally clicked for him.

The former Barnsley, West Brom and Watford man will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad with some reinforcements over the next couple of months. He also has the chance to let some players leave to help free up space and funds.

Will Blackburn Rovers bring in Andrew Parkinson?

Time will tell whether Blackburn Rovers will be able to bring in Parkinson. Rovers’ chances of getting him will depend on whether he wants to stay at Plymouth Argyle or leave for a new challenge somewhere else.

He has been with the Pilgrims for the last six years. The former University of Leeds student has also been at Liverpool in the past.

Blackburn Rovers published their retained list last month and confirmed they have offered new deals to Danny Batth, Andi Weimann and Tyrhys Dolan. They have released the likes of Dilan Markanday, Jack Vale, Patrick Gamble and Zak Gilsenan.
