In a highly anticipated move, Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze has made his final decision regarding the team’s quarterback situation for the upcoming 2025 season. Freeze confirmed that sophomore quarterback Ethan Foster will be the Tigers’ starting signal-caller for the year, ending weeks of speculation and competition within the Auburn football program.
“After an intense evaluation process, we’ve decided that Ethan Foster will be our starting quarterback as we head into the 2025 season,” Freeze said during a press conference this morning. “He’s earned this role through hard work, consistency, and leadership, both on and off the field. I believe in him and his ability to lead our offense.”
Foster, who saw limited playing time in his freshman year due to injuries and a crowded quarterback room, impressed during spring practice and the team’s preseason workouts. His impressive arm strength and ability to read defenses quickly have made him the clear frontrunner for the job.
“While we have depth and talent at the QB position, Ethan has shown the maturity and poise we need to build around as we look ahead to the season,” Freeze continued. “We’ve got big goals for this team, and I believe Ethan is the guy to help us achieve them.”
Foster will compete against redshirt freshman Mason Clarke and graduate transfer Jared Thomas, both of whom had solid showings in the spring but were ultimately edged out by the sophomore’s consistency and playmaking ability.
