Netflix finally releases Ole miss Documentary Series; Debuts in Summer of 2025

Netflix Announces 2024 SEC Football Documentary Series; Debuts in Summer of 2025

Add the SEC to Netflix’s growing list of sports documentary series.

The streamer announced on Wednesday that the series, covering the 2024 football season, will be released next summer with “unfiltered access” to coaches and players throughout the SEC.

The series will consist of eight episodes that are all about 45 minutes long.

Emerson noted the schools featured on the show include Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt.

Brett McMurphy of Action Network noted Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Texas will not participate in the documentary.

SEC spokesman Herb Vincent told Emerson all 16 schools in the conference were given the option to participate, adding there’s also the possibility the series could extend beyond one season.

“When a majority of the member schools indicated an interest in participating, the SEC proceeded with Netflix on production of the series with the understanding that schools can opt in or out of participation in subsequent years,” Vincent said.

According to Emerson, there was an initial “reluctance” from some of the programs to have an outside camera crew in their facilities, but SEC officials and some members ultimately decided to go along with it knowing it could serve as an advertising platform for the conference and their program.

There was also “some worry” that Netflix would pivot to the Big Ten if the SEC decided not to participate.

This continues Netflix’s foray into sports coverage that really took off with Drive to Survive. It has grown to include live sporting events, including the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson boxing match and two NFL games on Christmas Day. WWE’s flagship show Raw will begin airing weekly on the streaming service beginning January 6.

Other sports documentaries featured on Netflix have included Quarterback, Receiver, Starting 5 and Simone Biles Risinig.
