BREAKING: UConn has added another crafty lead guard to its roster as Geno Auriemma announced the signing of Iowa Star

UConn women’s basketball officially added a third member to its 2025 recruiting class, signing Blanca Quiñonez. Listed at 6-2 out of Milagro, Ecuador, she originally committed to the Huskies in October. Quiñonez will be the Huskies’ first player from South America.

“Blanca is mature, and her game has matured because she’s playing against high-level competition over in Europe that you wouldn’t get at a normal high school,” Geno Auriemma said in a release. “She’s a physical player and she’s skilled in knowing how to play because you have to be older than your years to play in a pro league. I’m excited to see what she brings because it’s different.”

Quiñonez has played in Italy’s Serie A1 league for Magnolia Basket Campobasso since 2020. In the league, she’s averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 steals in 10 games in the current campaign, though she’s put up at least 15 points in both EuroCup contests this season.

On the international stage, Quiñonez represented Ecuador in the 2022 South American Women’s Championship and has also participated in the 2018 South American U15 Championship and the 2019 FIBA U16 Americas Championship, winning a silver medal at the former.

UConn first spotted Quiñonez at a Basketball Without Borders event during the 2024 WNBA All-Star festivities in Phoenix this past July. She joins guard Kelis Fisher and post Gandy Malou-Mamel in the Huskies’ 2025 recruiting class.

UConn could still add to that group as well. The Huskies are one of three finalists for Agot Makeer, the No. 4 player in the class. South Carolina and Michigan State are also in the mix.
