Mathieu van der Poel Signs an additional 3-Year Deal with Canyon

Mathieu van der Poel, 29, has just signed the contract of a lifetime.

The Alpecin–Deceuninck rider has certainly proven his status as one of the strongest riders of this generation, and Canyon Bicycles is ready to put a ring on it, with a shiny new 10-year contract.

According to a press release, “Canyon can expect the current Road and Cyclocross World Champion to take its bikes to the top of the podium for many years to come. He has a phenomenal track record on Canyon bikes, with 163 victories in Road, Cyclocross, and Mountain Biking since late 2017, when his partnership with Canyon started.”

GCN reported that the deal was officially signed in Koblenz, Germany, on Monday, “just a couple of days after Van der Poel had helped his Alpecin-Deceuninck teammate, Jasper Philipsen, win Milano-Sanremo.”

Mathieu van der Poel said in a statement, “Canyon has been an incredible partner. We have developed bikes that have helped me succeed in Classics, World Championships, and Grand Tours. But I’m still incredibly hungry for success. There are several milestones on my radar, including the Paris Olympics this summer.”

Extending contracts is certainly in the air. In a separate deal, Canyon extended its terms with Alpecin-Deceuninck, continuing the relationship with the team that started in late 2017.

Alpecin-Deceuninck Team Management Philip and Christoph Roodhooft said, “Since we signed with Canyon we have had a long-term vision to create the first-ever multi-disciplinary team, built with the best and most talented riders of their generation. That is only achievable with the support of partners who build world-class, high-performance products and share the same hunger for victory. Our new contract with Canyon is a significant milestone in the future development of all the talented riders who join Alpecin-Deceuninck and Fenix-Deceuninck riders.”

To ensure the Dutch rider’s stability moving forward, Van der Poel has also extended his contract with Alpecin-Deceuninck until the end of 2028.

Next up for Van der Poel? Belgian classics E3 and Gent-Wevelgem, followed by the Spring Monuments, the Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Amstel Gold, and Liege-Bastogne-Liege.
