BREAKING: Pray for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara

As much of the NFL universe sought ways to elbow its way into New Orleans and wedge into a space where it could witness Super Bowl LIX on Sunday in the Caesars Superdome, New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara – unsurprisingly – voluntarily ceded any space that may have been reserved for him.

“I’ll probably be in the air somewhere,” Kamara said of his plans for Sunday. “I’ll probably be on a flight or something. I ain’t watching. I don’t watch football.

“I just don’t. I have no interest in sports outside of playing. Football, I have no interest in (watching it), outside of playing. Basketball, I never played. Growing up I didn’t do any of that, so I like doing all the stuff I didn’t have the privilege of doing like golf, snowboarding – stuff I didn’t have the privilege to do when I was younger.”

Kamara did dip in to the city long enough to make an appearance at Speaker Politics on Wednesday night, where Oakley announced a donation to his community efforts.

The Saints’ all-time leader in touchdowns (86), rushing touchdowns (60), rushing yards (6,779), rushing attempts (1,543) and yards from scrimmage (11,541), has taken note of the Saints’ coaching search. Kamara expressed a preference for interim head coach Darren Rizzi, who took over for the final eight games after Dennis Allen was fired on Nov. 4.

“I gave my two cents, whether anybody cares or not,” said Kamara, who ran for a career high 950 yards last season, but missed the final three games with a groin injury and fell 50 yards short of having his first 1,000-yard rushing season.
But it is what it is, we’ll see what happens. And when we get back to work, we get back to work. But I’m enjoying my offseason.”

Understandably, there’s the expectation of a roster shakeup after the Saints finished 5-12 (2-7 with Allen, 3-5 under Rizzi).

“Every year you’re looking to evolve,” Kamara said. “Nobody’s staying the same, everybody’s looking to upgrade one or two spots or even get some support and some cushion in some other spots. Depending on what happens with the coaching change, I guess we’ll figure out what we need to do after that.”

But, Kamara said he was impressed with how New Orleans spruced up in preparation for the Super Bowl.
