Brighton man questioned after celebration raises eyebrows – May be frustrated with season away

Brighton and Hove Albion winger Ibrahim Osman has found himself being questioned in the Netherlands after a celebration left everyone watching confused.

Voetbalzone cover comments from journalist Valentijn Driessen today on the player after he left everyone bemused following the win over FC Groningen.

Feyenoord were 4-1 winners over Groningen this week with the Brighton loanee on the scoresheet, but he was seen making a ‘talking gesture’ with his hand and putting a finger in front of his mouth as part of the celebrations.

This led to some confusion in the stands, particularly among the journalists and commentators watching, who had no idea what this was in reference to.

“Well, well, well, mister Osman. What have we done to you?”, wondered commentator Vincent Schildkamp. “Apparently some critics suddenly came to mind. A strange moment.”

Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie was even asked about the incident following the game, admitting he had not seen it but intended to talk to the Brighton man about it.

Driessen was another of those left bemused by the actions, insisting that as far as he knows, the Brighton loanee has dodged criticism of any kind this season.

“Who were those critics then? I have not heard anyone talk about Osman. What is it about? Osman…” he said.

“Maybe he expected a bit more from the season?”, presenter Pim Sedee then asked. “At the start of the season he still seemed like a promising player.

“That other boy, who came from Newcastle United last year, Yankuba Minteh. The curve went up from him,” concluded Driessen, suggesting that Osman may be frustrated with his progress this year.

That could certainly be the case for Osman, who has four goals and two assists in 28 games this season and broke a streak of nine games without in the league before his goal against Groningen.
