Harvey Knibbs becomes first Reading FC player to achieve feat since 2005/06

Reading FC star Harvey Knibbs has added another achievement to his list in what has been a superb campaign for the 25-year-old.

Since joining from Cambridge United on a free transfer in 2023, Knibbs has become a vitally important player for the Royals.

Featuring first as a winger under Ruben Selles when he first joined, Knibbs has now found his best form playing in a more central attacking position from midfield after the Spaniard switched up his formation last campaign.

Knibbs netted 11 League One goals and totalled six assists in his first season with Reading and he is well on track to better that.

After 37 matches, Knibbs already has 13 league goals and four assists.

He also has two goals in the EFL Trophy, taking his season total of goals to 15 which means he is the first Reading player to score 15 goals or more in all competitions in back-to-back seasons since 2005/06.

The last player to achieve that feat for the Royals was Dave Kitson who notched 19 goals in 37 Championship games in 2004/05 before he scored 18 in 34 as the Royals won promotion to the Premier League for the very first time under legendary manager Steve Coppell.

Knibbs will be hoping that he can continue his goal socring form to help Reading in their push for a place in the play-offs.

Noel Hunt’s team currently sit in 7th place and just one point outside the play-off places with seven games left to play.

Reading will host 3rd placed Wycombe Wanderers at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday with a bumper crowd expected for the contest.
